Member Monday: A Relaxing Return to Sunny St. Maarten

Being a beach goer and plane spotter at the same time is easy on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Waving at passengers flying overhead is one of many fun things to do in this tropical destination. Vacation veteran and Global Discovery Vacations member, Kimberly C. is an excellent resource for what to do on St. Maarten. Learn how she and her family spent their sixth visit to the island, all while staying at the Royal Islander Club La Plage. This week’s Member Monday is about to take off!

Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
Greenhouse Bar and Restaurant has a wide variety of Caribbean foods in addition to American foods. Something for everyone!

The Straw markets of Philipsburg. The locals that run the straw markets are very nice and have a great variety of items to purchase.

Have fun/attractions
Zip-lining at Loterie Farm, which is on the French side of the island. It only takes about 30 minutes to get to the farm. It has three restaurants onsite, saltwater dipping/relaxing pools, hiking trails and three different levels of zip-lining tours to choose from.

What was your favorite…
Resort/Condo Amenity
This location is second to none! The beautiful resort sits at the end of the Princess Juliana National Airport runway. During your stay you have the option to walk to several different beaches, restaurants and shops. Members also have the option to relax on a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool or ocean and watch the planes as they land! We also loved the pool area. There are multiple locations for chairs. The hot tub was a nice addition, and the poolside restaurant was great.

Place to go in the destination
We just had a wonderful time exploring the entire island. This was our sixth visit to the island and we always rent a car for the week. Driving is easy and the island is small enough you can’t get lost!

I would definitely recommend going to Maho Beach to experience the planes landing and taking off! They are directly above your head and there is nothing like it!

Why did you choose this destination?
We chose this destination because the island has so many different things to do, yet it is small enough not to be intimidating.

What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
We loved zip-lining!

Any tips for a traveler to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring? Rent a car and explore. You only need to bring a bathing suit!
